The newest addition to the portable netbook industry is the Ubisurfer from UK based wireless technology provider Datawind. Datawind’s PocketSurfer devices have been the precursors to today’s netbooks and when introduced, they made the internet affordable and accessible to all. The UbiSurfer truly is the next great leap in technology – all the functionality of a laptop with the “go anywhere” internet connection that made the previous Datawind products so popular. The integrated SIM-card provides you with a free GPRS internet connection, but if you’re close to a wireless network you can connect and explore the internet at your leisure in true vivid colour on its 7 inch TFT LCD screen.
You can do so much with this little beauty that it’s very likely we’re going to run out of space. Here goes: it has a highly secure Linux operating system which hosts a word processing program, a spreadsheet program, a paint brush program, a media player, a sound recorder, it’s flash enabled, you can use instant messaging programs, check your emails, (if you’ve read this far, you should probably buy it) read PDF files, arrange your life with the inbuilt calendar, read E-Books and once you’re done with all that you can install more programs from a USB flash drive. All of this requires a significant amount of power, but it has 128MB of RAM and 1GB of flash memory which can be expanded using an SD card or by plugging an external hard drive into one of 3 USB expansion ports, so you’re all set. With this baby stuffed in your backpack you’ll be ready to go wherever you are.
The Ubisurfer is priced at a very reasonable £159.99 and is available now at Maplin retail stores and Ideal TV home shopping.

I read the UbiSurfer has DataWind’s patented browsing technology that makes the experience faster than 3G, even on GPRS. Check out the speed challenge video against the iPhone 3G on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LEJwyvOMybo
